So what is the fee speach I hear so much about???

General Pace, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, has stated that he believes that homosexuality is immoral. Gen. Pace was asked what he thought of the "Don't ask don't tell" policy. He stated he thought the policy was fine. Gen. Pace was then asked what his personal beliefs were regarding homosexuality.

The main issue here is that when the General was asked what his personal beliefs where, he answered, albeit with and answer that no one wanted to hear. Gen. Pace was not saying that the military needed to change it's policy, nor was he standing on a mountain preaching to a sea of people to hate and abuse homosexuals. The General was merely giving his personal opinion.

Gay rights groups are calling for an apology from Gen. Pace. I hope and pray that he does not issue on. Gen. Pace has done nothing wrong. As far as I know (I must admit I haven't done too much research on the issue) Gen. Pace has never done anything that is in violation of the "Don't ask don't tell" policy. Speaking one's mind is in no way a violation of the "Don't ask don't tell" policy.

The Constitution of America expressly protects freedom of speech. If you don't believe me read it for yourself...

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."

As one can clearly see, Gen. Pace has not done anything illegal. He HAS exercised his right as an American to voice his opinion. I think that it's very important to point out that the General did not offer his opinion for no reason. He was asked. If people are afraid of knowing what someone else feels, THEN DON'T ASK!!!
