North Korea Test Nukes.

On October 9, 2006 North Korea claimed to have tested a nuclear device. North Korea has strained relations with most of the western world, and this test will not help to strengthen those ties. There are several countries, US, Australia, South Korea, and Japan that already have sanctions against North Korea. The United Nations is currently discussing what actions to take. China, an ally of North Korea, has changed their stance is and is willing to back UN imposed sanctions, which should in an of itself be a warning to North Korea, "Even your friends don't agree with you".

Normally I think it's fine for a country to develop weapons to protect itself. I normally don't think it is the right of the US or UN or any other body to decide what a sovereign nation can and can't do. This time, I do agree with the UN. I do not feel that nuclear weapons are something that should be developed, stored, or used.

There are only 6 countries that are absolutely known to have nuclear capabilities. Most of those nations are stable, and smart enough not to use them (though not smart enough not to build them). There are several other nations that may or may not have the bomb. Either way, if it's only the six, or if it's several more, there are too many nations with the ability to destroy the Earth for the rest of the us who don't have the means of MAD (Mutual Assured Destruction).
